FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR GOLD STAR MOTHER

Funeral services were held in the Gracemont Baptist church Saturday afternoon for Mrs. Melissa Emmeline Tallent (wife of W.R. Tallent) by Rev. F.J. Cox, pastor of the Baptist church at Fletcher.
The funeral was under the direction of J.H. Wisener of Fletcher who brought the body from that city to Gracemont. The cortege passed through Anadarko and was accompanied by many relatives and friends of deceased. The Tallent family have been living at Fletcher for several months but were former residents of Anadarko.
Mrs. Tallent was born August 7, 1871, at Broomtown, Alabama, and died Nov. 15, 1929, aged 58 years, 4 months and 15 days. She was married to W.R. Tallent and to this union fourteen children were born. Her husband and eleven children survive. At an early age she was converted and joined the Baptist church and at the time of her death was a member of the First Baptist church in Anadarko.
Deceased was the mother of Reuben Tallent, who was killed in action overseas during the World war. His body was brought to Gracemont and interred in the cemetery there with full military honors. The remains were laid to rest beside the body of her son. The local post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars was named in honor of Mr. Tallent. Members of the Anadarko Legion Auxiliary had charge of services at the grave and conducted their ritualistic services. Members of the American Legion post of Anadarko acted as pall bearers.
Despite the rain that fell during the afternoon a large crowd of sorrowing relatives and friends were present to pay their last respects to the memory of this Gold Star Mother.
