On June 5, 1872, he married Lavicy H. Harvey; they had five children together: Mary, Carie, Jennie, Robert H., and Sallie. He was a pioneer merchant in Mooresville; had a grocery store: "General dealer in choice family groceries, provisions, fine teas & tobaccos, hardware, wooden, willow, glass & queensware. Established business in 1868, previous to which he was in the dry goods trade." Buried in family plot, Mooresville Cemetery.
