She was born Nov. 2, 1918 in Clover the daughter of the late James Lee and Carrie Ferrell Anderson.
Mrs. Kern was a member of Alton Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Lowery and husband Clifton of Alton and Carolyn Kern of Nathalie; three grandchildren, Jimmie Rogers Jr., Denise Jones and husband Willie and Jennifer Rogers; four great-grandchildren, Alexandra Jones, Jimmy Rogers III, Allison and Madison Moore; one sister-in-law, Jean W. Anderson; seven nieces and six nephews, one foster niece, one step niece and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Alan Kern; three brothers, Henry Dennis Anderson, Charlie James (Pete) Anderson and Johnny Lewis Anderson; one sister, Lillie Daniel; one foster sister, Estelle Ferrell Carlson; and one step-brother, Richard (Dick) Cabaniss.
Funeral services for Mrs. Kern will be held at Alton Baptist Church Friday, Jan. 7, 2011, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dennis Ball, Larry Martin and Dave Slabach officiating. Burial will follow in Clover Cemetery.
The family received friends at Powell Funeral Home Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home of her daughter in Alton.
