Elizabeth Wachtel was the daughter of Elizabeth Riddle Wachtel and Jacob Wachtel. She was born in Mohicanville, Plain Township in Wayne County, Ohio. She had a twin brother John Rigdon Wachtel.
Elizabeth married Andrew DeWitt Robinson on April 2, 1850 in Oceola, Crawford County, Ohio. Their first child John Francis Robinson was born in Oceola on May 31, 1851. Soon after, Andrew set off for the gold fields of California with Elizabeth's brother John. While they were in California, Elizabeth along with her mother and infant son and other family members moved to eastern Iowa in search of farmland. They settled in Central City, Linn County, Iowa. Elizabeth and Andrew had four more children - Curtis Bates (1856), Lois Odema (1858), James Thaddius (1860), and Elizabeth Ellen (1862). She died on September 23, 1865.
