Louisa Catherine "Kate" Dunn Davis (1886 - 1967): This photo was taken in 1949 with a granddaughter. Kate was agile most of her life. Well into her years she could still chase after a chicken, wring its neck, dress it, cut it up, dredge it in flour and spices, fry it and have it (along with whatever else she was serving) on the table for the noon meal. [She was 63 years old when this photo was taken -- and was still chasing down chickens for more than a decade after it was taken.]

She was an expert quilter and could cut a dress from material without the benefit of having a pattern to follow. She also crafted her own featherbeds and pillows. Her 10 children knew better than to bedevil her when she had a needle in her hand. Even as adults, most of them lovingly called her "Mommy" until the day she died.
