FORT DEFIANCE — Funeral services for Abel Edward Thompson Sr., 53, will be 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 30, at The Family Church, Fort Defiance. James Bennett will officiate. Burial will be in Fort Defiance Cemetery.
Thompson died Dec. 25, 2010, in Phoenix. He was born Feb. 8, 1957, in Fort Defiance.
Thompson graduated May 1977 from Window Rock High School and attended North American College, Tempe, where he graduated in 1992. He worked for the Navajo Nation, Racher's Office and Equipment, Peackload Inc., Phoenix, and Indian Health Services, Fort Defiance. His hobbies included basketball and loved watching Nascar.
Survivors include his wife, Ralphena J. Thompson; sons, Abel Thompson Jr., Gary Lewis, Thurman Lewis, all of Fort Defiance, Duane Haven of Window Rock; daughters, Kiana Thompson of Fort Defiance, Waheulla Barney of Window Rock; brothers, Steve Thompson, Benjamin Thompson Sr. of Fort Defiance; six grandchildren.
Thompson was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Lena.
Pallbearers will be Benjamin Thompson, Duane Haven, Gary Lewis, Craig Thompson, Thurman Lewis, Paul Thompson.
The family will receive relatives and friends at The Family Life Center, Fort Defiance, following services.
