Final rites were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Jacoby Brothers Funeral Home for Samuel Lester Abbott, 78, of Kane whose death occurred Sunday morning at Boyd Memorial Hospital, Carrollton. Rev Garland Williams of Jerseyville officiated at the services and interment was in Kane Cemetery.

A retired farmer, he was born Feb 18, 1892 in Greene County a son of the late Albert A. and Elizabeth Seago Abbott. His survivors are his wife Maudel A. Keown Abbott; five sons, Leo, Samuel A. and William H. of Kane, Alonzo of Jerseyville, and Herschel R. of Milwaukee, Wis.; eight daughters, Mrs Elzina Morris, Jerseyville, Mrs Ellen Holmes, Carrollton, Mrs Eunice Dustman, Godfrey, Mrs Wanda Wilinson, Kane, Mrs Effie Polito, Detroit, Michigan, Mrs Elplena Walthers, Chicago, Mrs Clara Smith, Thayer, and Mrs Betty Walters, Los Animas, CO; 55 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Albert A. Abbott of Kane and Howard Abbott of Jerseyville; and one sister, Mrs Emily Ashlock of Kane.

His parents, one son, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Visitation hours were held at Jacoby Funeral Home.
