Ogden -- Beth Nielsen Christensen, age 81, passed away Friday, May 18, 2001 at McKay-Dee Hospital with her long-time sweetheart, Lowell, holding her hand. His loving care made it possible for her to stay at home for her last days.

She was born February 27, 1920 in Portage, Utah, the daughter of Joseph Andrew and Ruby Williams Nielsen.

Beth married Lowell James Christensen on November 9, 1941 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Beth lived in Portage in her younger years, later moving to Garland. She graduated from Bear River High School in 1938 and the Thomas D. Dee Nursing Program in 1941.

After marrying Lowell they lived in Southern California for two years. She lived the rest of her life in Ogden where she worked at the Thomas D. Dee Memorial Hospital and McKay-Dee Hospital. She was the role model for all nurses to follow and strive to become.

Beth was a member of the LDS church. She held numerous positions in Primary and Relief Society.

She was a member of the American Nurses Association and Utah Nurses Association.

Nursing was her greatest hobby and love. She loved to serve others in need. Beth crocheted many afghans for her children and grandchildren. Campings, tents, sleeping bags, and fishing were always fun with her. She started golfing after the camping stopped. She loved to play cards, especially bridge with friends and family. She always looked forward to her bridge club.

Surviving are her husband, one son, Jeffrey L. (Diane) Christensen, Layton; two daughters, Jean C. Smith, West Point; JoAnn C. Hackley, Ogden; 10 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are one sister, LaRue N. Glasmann, and one sister-in-law, Isabelle Nielsen.

Preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at 1 p.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., with Bishop Reed O. Leishman, officiating.

Friends and family may call Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 12 to 12:45 p.m. at the mortuary.

Interment, Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
