Born Jan. 29, 1920, in DeKalb, the son of Nels and Mollie (Larson) Bjelk, Bob married Shirley Seitzinger on July 30, 1948; she preceded him death in 1986.
He was employed by General Electric in DeKalb, then later by Northern Illinois University. Bob served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the China, Burma and India theater.
Survivors include a sister, Vivian (Robert) Courtney of DeKalb; numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Hazel Seitzinger; brothers-in-law, Don (Lois) Seitzinger and Dick (Joann) Seitzinger.
He was predeceased by his parents; wife, Shirley; sisters, Olivia, Lillian, Sylvia, Julia and Tillie; and brothers, Harvey, Perry, Ernst and Russell.
A private graveside service will be held Saturday, Jan. 8, at Fairview Park Cemetery, DeKalb, with the Rev. Marilyn Hanson of First Lutheran Church, DeKalb, officiating, with full military rites.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to DeKalb County Hospice.
