James Norman Abele, 70, of Oak Ridge, formerly of Knoxville, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010 at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
He retired from the Y-12 National Security Complex in 2008 after 47 years in the Engineering Division.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Hawkins Abele and father Howell McKay Abele, both of Knoxville.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Beverly Abele; daughter and husband, Elizabeth and Nick Fields of Nashville; son, David Abele of Pigeon Forge; son and wife Brandon and Misty Abele of Maryville; sister and husband, Carol and Jack Sample of Chattanooga; sister and husband, Mary McKay and Don Lamaste; brother and wife Kenneth (Joe) and Cindy Abele of Knoxville; grandchildren, Taylor and Ryan Fields, and Natalie Abele and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 - 6pm on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010 at Weatherford Mortuary, 158 S. Jefferson Circle, Oak Ridge. A memorial service will be held at 6pm at the Mortuary with Rev. Johnny Dabney officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Project Linus of E. TN, Deb Miller, Chapter Coordinator, 282 Orchard Valley Dr., Harriman, TN 37748 or Friends of the Smoky Mountains National Park. An on-line guest book can be signed at www.weatherfordmortuary.com.
