RITES HELD MONDAY FOR MRS. JOE PARKS
Mrs. Edith Parks 70, passed away at her home Friday evening after an illness of a few days. Funeral services were conducted in St. Paul's Lutheran church, Burton at 2 p.m. Monday afternoon with the Rev. J.J. Lippoldt officiating. Burial was made in the Burton cemetery.
Mrs. Parks, the former Edith Leora Reed, was the daughter of Urias and Cordelia Reed and was born on a farm near Burton Sept. 5, 1875 where she grew to womanhood. She became the wife of Ben Hurst and to this union were born three children, Mrs. Gordon Grace Laugesen of Cassville, Mrs. Bena Turner and Arthur Hurst of Dubuque, Iowa. Her first husband passed away Sept. 7, 1915 and in November of that same year she married Joseph Parks. They made their home on a farm near Potosi for a number of years before moving to the village of Cassville. To their union one son, Melvin, now a resident of Dubuque, was born.
Surviving besides the husband and children is a sister, Mrs. Lorin Bright of LaCrosse, Wis., and a brother, Louis Reed of Kellogg, Minn., 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Ben Hurst; one sister and five brothers. Casketbearers were six grandsons, Donald and Harley Turner, Jimmy Hurst of Dubque, Lorraine Laugesen of Beetown, Dale Laugesen and Willis Laugesen of Burton. Funeral arrangements were by the Echstem Funeral home.
