For many years thereafter, Verna was a resident of Orange County, where she raised her family. Over time, she and Harry also opened their home to other relatives. She spent much of her time helping own and operate Moon Camp in Fawnskin, on Big Bear Lake in San Bernardino County. She was an active and longtime member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Verna married Harry on 24 December 1913. They were parents to Margery (1917), Harry Lee, Jr. (1918), Elizabeth "Betty", John William ("Bill"), Robert Harlow, James Dexter, and Mary Ann.
