He is the son of Wilhelm Daniel Ferdinand Wahrmund and Amelia Schildknecht. Both were from Weisenbaum, Germany.
Otto married Sophie Nimitz on January 23, 1879 in Fredericksburg, Texas. They had seven daughters and one son.

Otto became vice-president and manager of San Antonio Brewing Association. Also, call "City Brewery". Later called "Pearl Brewing Company".

In 1908 Otto started serving in the Texas State Legislature. He was re-elected four times unopposed. He represented the thirty-fifth district.
