On Friday evening the death of Charles H. Arland following an illness of three-months duration from cancer of the stomach. He made his home here since 1889 coming from South Dakota where he spent twenty years of his life.
He was born in ENGLAND coming to the United States with his parents when he was sixteen years of age. The deceased saw active service in the Civil war serving his country for four years. He leaves the following children to mourn his loss, George H. Arland, and C. T. Arland of Garfield, Mrs. E. T. Combs of Chehalis, and Mrs. H. C. Shireman of Salem. The funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon at two o'clock with a large crowd of friends and relatives in attendance. The services at the grave were in charge of the Masonic lodge of which the deceased was a member.
