Stella M. Zenger, youngest daughter of Henry James and Ida May Apley Smith, was born January 2, 1905, on the family farm northeast of Haddam. She died July 26, 2000, at Belleville Health Care Center.
On June 13, 1923, Stella married Walter Zenger at Fairbury, Nebraska. Mrs. Zenger was a member of United Methodist Church of Haddam where she taught Sunday school and was a member of a sewing club. She was a homemaker and was employed for a time at a nursing home in Washington. She spent the majority of her years in Haddam, until entering Belleville Health Care Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; two sons, Walter Jr., and Wade W.; two grandsons, Kevin and Sheldon; three sisters, Nellie June, Maude Lockmiller, Leta Landis; three brothers, Calvin, Howard and Francis.
Survivors included five sons, Wendell, Winfred, Wesley, Warren and Weldon; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchildren.
