Maria Adeline Painter, born in 1869 in Schuyler County, Illinois, was a daughter of Elizabeth Ann Painter (née Gobble). She appears to have been born about 2 years after the death of her mother's first husband, Andrew Painter, and about about 18 months before her mother remarried. Maria grew up in the household of her mother and step-father William Riley Roe in Schuyler County.

"May" Painter and Levi M. Tidrick were married on 10 December 1887 in adjoining Fulton County, Illinois. The couple resided in Astoria, Fulton County, where their eight children were born (two daughters died in infancy).

"Mrs. Levi M. Tidrick, a well known and respected lady died at her home in this city about 4 p.m. Sunday. Maria Adeline Painter, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Painter [sic ], was born in Frederick, Ill. Oct. 8, 1869. The greater portion of her life was spent in and around Bluff City and Astoria. Dec 10, 1887, she was united in marriage to L. M. Tidrick. To this union 8 children were born, five sons and three daughters. Two daughters died in infancy. Those surviving, together with the husband, are: Frank M. Tidrick, Davenport, Iowa; Von B. Tidrick, Beardstown; Fred N., Louis and Linas B., all of Astoria; Mrs. Garnet Wilson of Folkston, Georgia, also an aged mother, Mrs. E. A. Roe of Springfield, Ill., and five grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mary Hetrick of Cloverdale, Indiana, four half-sisters, Mrs. Belle Sheridan, Oakdale Tenn.; Mrs. Martha Murphy, Clara DeLong of Springfield, Mrs. Marie Parks of Chicago, one half brother Noah Roe of Springfield." (Maria Adeline Tidrick (née Painter) obit., Astoria Argus, Astoria, Illinois, 4 Apr 1928.)

Notes

The identification of Maria Adeline being a "daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Painter" may be a polite fiction. It should be noted that, in her obit., Mary Etta—her mother's child with Andrew Painter—is identified as a sister; her mother's four daughters with William Riley Roe are identified as half-sisters.

William Riley Roe died in 1885. As part of the Civil War widow's pension application for Elizabeth Ann "Row" (née Gobble), her brother in 1888 swore an affidavit that Andrew Painter had died in "the Last of September or the first of October in the year of 1867."
