Murphy of Fairfax Station, VA.; Loving brother of Patrick (Jackye) Murphy of Hartwell, GA.; Sharon (Frank) Rogers of Loganville, GA.; Mary Glyn (Terry) Weyant of Wynnewood, PA and Kathleen (Sam) Webb of Duluth, GA.; Adoring grandfather of Brandon, Patrick and Chase Murphy of Panama City, FL. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Michael was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1947 to Frances Aline and James Kenneth Murphy.
He attended Hooper Alexander Elementary in Decatur, Georgia and was a 1965 Graduate of Avondale High School in Avondale Estates, GA.
Michael served in the Air Force for six years and began working for IBM following his discharge.
After moving to Seattle, WA to marry Shelley, he left a 22-year career with IBM to pursue his dream of being a teacher. He began teaching in 1996. In 2002, he moved with Shelley to Fairfax Station, VA and began teaching at Bonnie Brae Elementary, and most recently at Lorton Station Elementary.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association , 7203 Poplar Street, Annandale, VA 22003
