Mrs Nehring Dies
Mother of Former Sheriff Passes Yesterday Morning in Oelwein Hospital, Age 83
Oelwein - Mrs Augusta Nehring, 83, died at 3:30 am Tuesday, May 6, in Mercy hospital, Oelwein, where she had been for a week. She had long been in feeble health, and finally gave way to the infirmities of age.
The funeral will be conducted from the Lutheran church in Oelwein at 10:30 am Thursday.
Mrs Nehring made an extended visit last winter in West Union, in the home of her son, former Sheriff H J Nehring. In that home she celebrated her 83rd birthday Feb 28, at which time the picture here shown was taken. (the picture with her holding the cake.) Six of her children were present at her birthday party.
Mrs Nehring was born in Germany Feb 28, 1858. She came to America in 1881, residing in Buchanan county until 1913, when she and her husband, Ferdinand Nehring, retired to Oelwein. Mr Nehring died in 1929. They became the parents of fifteen children, of whom ten are living, as follows: Mrs E J J Heise, Oelwein; Mrs Will Ripke, St Paul, Minn; Mrs Peter Swarts, Stanley; Ed Nehring, Oelwein; Mrs Alvin (Alvina) Pahn (Rahn), Geneseo, Ill; Henry J Nehring, West Union; Mrs Warren Coon, Oxford, Wisc; Otto Nehring, West Union; Mrs George Niemeyer, Portage, Wisc; Mrs Agnes Neubauer, Portage, Wisc.
