Emily Sue McCutchan was the daughter of James Buchanan McCutchan and Susan Finley. She married Berry Buchanan Beard.

"Beard-McCutchan. Reported for the County News. Moffatts Creek, June 10.—Mr. Berry B. Beard ahd bride have returned home from their bridal trip to Washington and other points of interest. Mr. Berry and Miss Emily S. McCutchan were quietly married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. James B. McCutchan, near here on the evening of June 6th. Emily McCutchan Beard was born 9 Jun 1885 to James Buchanan McCutchan and Susan Finley. She was the wife of Berry B. Beard. She died 10 Mar 1974 at Kings Daughters Hospital in Staunton, Virginia. She resided at 204 N Lewis Street in Staunton. VA DC # 74-008440.

"Sale Of Valuable Real Estate in Riverheads District, Augusta County, Va. In order to complete the administration of the estate of Emily McCutchan Beard, deceased, the undersigned will offer for sale at public auction to the highest bidder or bidders in front of the Shemariah Presbyterian Chapel on Route 602 near its intersection with Route 677, about 5 miles southwest of the Village of Middlebrook in Augusta County, Virginia, on Sat., Aug. 27, 1977 At 11 A.M. the following described real estate: FIRST: All of that certain umm proved tract of land situate in Riverheads District, Augusta County, Virginia, containing 28 acres, more or less, this being a sale in gross and not by the acre, being irregular in shape and fronting on the southwest side of Route 677 and on the southeast side of Route 602, and being designated as Parcel No. 19 and the smaller part of Parcel No. 23 on Tax Map or Section No. 71 on file in the Augusta County Land Office in the Augusta County Courthouse, less, however, a parcel of land estimated to contain 2 1/2 acres, adjoining SHEMARIAH CHURCH CEMETERY, which was specifically devised to Charles Mason Thompson under the will of EMILY McCutchan Beard. This tract consists of cleared land. SECOND: All of that certain tract of land, together with all improvements thereon and all rights, privileges and appurtenances thereto belonging, situated in Riverheads District, Augusta County, Virginia, lying to the southwest of, but not adjoining, the tract described in paragraph FIRST above, containing 180 acres, more or less, this being a sale in gross and not by the acre, and being designated as the larger and southwestern part of Parcel No. 23 on Tax Map or Section No. 71 on file in the aforesaid Augusta County Land Office. This tract is about 65 per cent wooded and is improved by a frame dwelling and shed, both in poor condition. A flowing stream fed by springs is located on this tract. The tracts of land described above were originally part of the ADDISON McCUTCHAN farm and were acquired by the late Emily McCutchan Beard by inheritance from her father and mother, James B. McCutchan and Susan F. McCutchan, by inheritance from her sister, Betty McCutchan Crist, and by inheritance from her brother, Addison McCutchan. TERMS OF SALE: Cash with a bidder's deposit of 10 per cent of the sales price on the date of sale and the balance to be paid at final closing within 60 days after the date of sale. Wherein Emily McCutchan's written will dated 14 Jul 1967, and a codicil dated 9 Apr 1971, were in her bank safe deposit box. A holographic paper dated 3 Jun 1971, was found on a writing pad at Emily's home. It includes these lines: "Jane my clothes are yours. My diamond ring goes to Carrine McCutchan, also Cameo pin, a family piece Other jewelry, pins costume jewelry, bracelets for Jane and Mason girls, and Chas. better watch Vallye gave me to Carrine McCutchan. George Payne gets those little walnut box — his name is on them Also silver candle sticks to George... My diamond ring to Carrine. Also gold watch. And if Lorraine never calls for gold band dishes, they are yours. The Bullet desk in my room here is for Mason, in place of the China press I gave him then sold.
