Born Doris Ahle on April 24, 1915 in Chicago, to Florence Webb and Frank Ahle, she moved to Detroit, Mich. as an infant. She spent some of her childhood with her grandmother Cook in Ohio.
She came to Ahle's Resort in Crivitz by train for the first time with her father in 1927 at the age of 12. It was owned by her grandfather John Ahle, to whom she became very close. She fell in love with the resort and the beauty of Lake Noquebay and came every summer during her youth. She married Charles Allen on Feb. 11, 1940 in Crown Point, Ind. and inherited Ahle's Resort from her father, Frank.
In addition to running the resort, the couple also had a small dairy farm and raised mink. She was involved with the Crivitz Historical Museum and was a member of the board of directors for a number of years. She was instrumental in the formation of the Lake Noquebay Rehabilitation District.
Survivors included her special family, Chris and Reg Roger and their family; her many dear friends and close neighbors, and especially her many tourists who became lifelong friends over the course of 65 years.
Doris Allen was preceded in death by her husband, Charles in 1996.
