Obituary

Doctor Walker Pinkston, known to his friends as Walker, was born in Luka, Mississippi, December 25, 1864; died in Oklahoma City, April 18, 1931, at the age of 66 years, 3 months and 24 days. He came to Oxford, Ark., in his youth at which place he was united in marriage to Laura Smithee, at the age of 21 years. Five children were born to this union; Felix of Tulsa, Okla., Benjamin Harrison and Irene who have passed away, Lettie Wasson of West Monroe, La., Ernest of Oklahoma City. This union was dissolved by death, June 3, 1896.
He was married the second time May 1, 1897 to Lula Vernon. Three children were born to this union; one baby, who died in infancy, Wanda Benton and Florence McNees of Oklahoma City.
He leaves four grand-children, Wilma White of San Francisco, California, D.W. Pinkston of Tulsa, Oklahoma, C.W. Gray Jr. of Oklahoma City and John Lauurie Waason of West Monroe, La., One brother A.L. Pinkston of Duncan, Oklahoma and a cousin Steve Pinkston of Shawnee, Oklahoma, whom he loved as a brother.
He was converted, but had never united with any church, but was a true believer and had a high standard of living, strictly honest and upright in all his dealings.
He moved from Arkansas to Texas in 1892, then to New Mexico, then back to Texas and from there to Minco, Oklahoma, December 1907, where he engaged in the mercantile business until his health failed, when he sold out his business and lived at different places until the time of his death.
Funeral services were held in the Minco high school auditorium, Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock by Rev. J.W. Barker, Interment was made in the Evergreen Cemetery.
