"Edmund and Angeline Rennels had some narrow escapes from trouble with the Copperheads during the Civil War. She reportedly had to take the children and hide along the fence rows, while her husband protected them and his parents. In 1868, he completed building the red brick, two-story home, in which he and his family lived for many years and in which the remainder of their children were born. This house, with the bricks made from clay in the near-by area, still stands just east of the Five Mile House, on the Westfield Road, in Hutton Township. It is now the home of Patrick J. Docter, Ph.D. and his family. Later, Edmund and Angeline moved to 1419 Seventh Street, Charleston, where they lived the rest of their lives. He died May 8, 1915, when over 85 and she died April 18, 1932, being past 95. He was a prosperous farmer and an active member of the Whetstone Separate Baptist Church. Edmund's second wife is also buried in Whetstone cemetery." See sources.
