Benjamin P. Holtgraver was born in Leavenworth County, Kansas, a son of Frank Holtgraver and Theresa Ploeger Holtgraver. He and his wife, Mary, had lived in Gardner the past 14 years and before that, had operated a farm for 42 years in the Bucyrus community. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gardner, the Gardner Grange and the Holy Name Society.
Survivors included his wife, Mary; two sons, Oscar Holtgraver, and Omar Holtgraver; a daughter, Mrs. Helen Grisham; two brothers, Edward Holtgraver and William Holtgraver; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Beland, Mrs. Martha Vance, and Mrs. Theresa Polley.
