Montie's occupation was a railroad conductor with the Santa Fe Railroad Co. from which he retired after 32 years of service. Montie was a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Bandera, Texas for many years after his retirement and return to Bandera.
Montie was the last surviving child of 16 born to his parents, Robert A. and Carrie Hamilton Chipman's blended family. Montie was the youngest of the two children born to the marriage of Robert A. and Carrie.
