Drallie J. Lake, 94, of Effingham, Illinois died at 4:36 a.m. Saturday, December 25, 2010 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, with Rev. Carroll W. Lewis officiating. Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Effingham. Drallie was born on July 5, 1916, in Effingham County, IL., the daughter of Kern and Emma (Richars) Woody. She married William Lloyd "Doc" Lake in 1933; he preceded her death on November 3, 1991. Drallie graduated from grade school in 1930. She was not able to attend high school, but she earned a GED and attended college on a scholarship awarded at the end of her eighth grade. At the age of 49, she graduated from Eastern Illinois University. She taught at Muddy Consolidated School in Jasper County for 11 years before retiring in 1976. She was a member of Mt.Zion Methodist Church, Effingham County Home Extension, and Illinois Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by her children, David (Rosemary) Lake of Effingham, Judy (Carl) Schottman and Steve (Trellis) Lake, both of Dieterich; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 sisters, 3 infant siblings, 2 grandsons, and 1 step-grandson.
