Elmer was born to John George Hollander (1888-1957) and Alma Natalie Marie Orf (1891-1969). He was the third child of 13: Eleanora Elizabeth, Celestus "Les" Joseph, Irene Valeria, Angela "Sis" Genevieve, Anthony "Tony" Gregory, Francis Urban, Lorraine Elizabeth, Alvira Theresa, Viola "Vi" Catherine, Alma "Rea" Marie, Adelaide "Adele" Laverne, and Herbert Edward. Elmer married Ruby Geraldine Griffin on Nov. 16, 1937, in St. Charles, MO. They had 3 children.
