Farmer and Lifelong Citizen of Keyser Township


After four months' illness with cancer of the stomach, James Kelham, prominent as a farmer and as a Mason, lifelong resident of Keyser township and member of a prominent family, died last Thursday morning at 8 o'clock at his home a mile west of Altona.

Mr. Kelham was born on the old Kelham farm a mile and three-quarters west of Altona and lived there until five years ago, when he bought the O. C. Clark farm and moved onto it. He was fifty-four years, five months and nineteen days of age.

Mr. Kelham invested his earnings in farm land and owned considerable acreage when he died. He served two terms as master of Garrett City lodge, No. 537. F. & A. M.. He was always active in politics, ever a democrat, and served on the Keyser township advisory board.

Surviving are the widow, who was married to Mr. Kelham in 1888; four children: Sarah, wife of Frank Brace, who lives a mile west of her mother's home, Freeman, Melvin and Calvin, all at home. There are also five brothers, a sister and a half-brother: Edward Kelham of Altona, Thomas Kelham of Avilla, Mrs. Mary Turner of Garrett. Joseph Kelham of Butler township. George Kelham of Noble county, Charles Kelham in Idaho and Jno. Huston of Jackson township.

Funeral services were held Sunday morning at the residence, the Rev. P. W. Boxell officiating and the Masons in charge. The interment was made in Union cemetery.
