John Briscoe was a Police Officer in Stockton, California, for 5 years. He died in the line of duty at age 28. While escorting two transients to jail, he was shot and killed. As they reached the steps of the Police Department, one broke free and pulled a revolver from his pocket. Officer Briscoe returned fire, got off 3 shots, but missed them, before staggering to the ground. He was survived by a wife and four sons.
