Mr. Kenneth M. Chancey, 75, of Nahunta died Thursday morning at Orangeburg Medical Center in Orangeburg, South Carolina after an extended illness.

He was born in Manor to the late Rev. William Floyd Chancey and Ethel Mae Chancey. Mr. Chancey made Waycross, Nahunta and Camden County his home for all of his life before moving to South Carolina a year ago to live with his daughters.

He began his career in law enforcement in 1954 and received his Georgia Police Officer Certification in 1978. During his law enforcement career he worked for the Waycross Police Department, Alma Police Department, Hoboken Police Department, Camden County Sheriff's Department and retired from the Kingsland Police Department in 1982.

He was a member of Lulaton Baptist Church. Mr. Chancey enjoyed hunting and fishing and was known by his friends as "Swamp Boy."

Mr. Chancey is survived by his wife Louise Dyson Chancey of Nahunta, a son, Joel Chancey and his wife Faye of Woodbine, three daughters, Kay Peacock and her husband Wray of Blackshear, Joyce Sapp and her husband Samuel of Ehrhardt, South Carolina, Janice Lowe and her husband Keith of Ehrhardt, South Carolina, his grandchildren, Michael Foreman and his wife Christy of Nahunta, Billy Joe Chancey and his wife Vicki of Brunswick, Brad Foreman of Ehrhardt, South Carolina, Kevin Sapp and his wife Amber of Germany, Justin Lowe of Blairsville, Georgia, Tisha Rowell and her husband Patrick of Woodbine, Michelle Lee and her husband Dewayne of Blackshear, Jamie Leigh Crews of Nahunta, Misty Davison and her husband Mike of Hortense, Marie Haire and her husband David of Blackshear, April Rogers and her husband Vince of Kingsland, twenty great grandchildren, a step-brother, Rudolph Blalock and his wife Connie of Blackshear, and numerous other relatives.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Monday at Lulaton Baptist Church. Burial will follow in High Bluff Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4-6 p.m., at the Miles-Odum Funeral Home.
