Bill was united in marriage to Marilyn Jean Bravick on September 4, 1947 at the Newark Lutheran Church. Bill served in the U.S. Navy Air Corp. He flew in TBM's and worked as a radio control man and a tail gunner. Bill was a member of the Sanwich Moose Lodge #1016 and was a past volunteer fire fighter for the Somonauk fire department. He was a retired carpenter.
Bill was a loving husband for 54 years and the patriarch of a large family. We loved him as much as he loved all of us. He was our father, our friend, our teacher and above all else a gentle man who will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace.
Survivors include his wife, Jean of Somonauk; his mother, Ester Land of Sandwich; three sons, William (Ellen) Land of Trenton, NJ, Larry (Chris) Land of Lake Holiday, Sandwich, Jeff (Connie) Land of Sandwich; four daughters, Susan (Len) Janoski of Yorkwille, IL, Sherri (Jim) Wendt of Yorkwille, IL, Laurie (Irv) Eberly of Sandwich, Julie (Steve) Cole of Sandwich; a brother, Harry (Doris) Land of Sandwich; a sister, Virginia Hayes of Montana; fourteen grandchildren, Jori (Bob) Miller of Sandwich, Scott (Molly) Wetzel of Yorkwille, Ryan and Blair Shaw of Somonauk, Alissa, Jordan and MacKenzie Land, Bill Land, Brett and Tyler Eberly, Austin and Tessa Cole all of Sandwich, Charlie Land of Trenton, NJ, Taylor Joanoski of Yorkville, and two great grandchildren, Jack and Hallie Miller of Sandwich.
He was preceded in death by his father; two brothers, Albert and Dalton and two sisters, June Shambaugh and Patty Boener.
Funeral services for Bill will be held on Friday, April 19, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Burkhart Funeral Home, Sandwich, IL Rev. David Kaulwill officiate. Burial will be in Millington, Newark Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2002 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Burkhart Funeral Home, Sandwich, IL.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
