When a child of three years, she moved with her parents to Wilton, Muscatine County, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood. On September 27, 1865, she was married to Milton K. Wellman. They established their home near Williamsburg, Iowa, where they resided for eight years. In May, 1874, they came to Fillmore County where they have since resided. To this union, six children were born, two dying in infancy, Wilbur K. and Joseph W.
Mrs. Wellman was converted in early childhood and has lived a faithful Christian life and at her death was a member of the United Brethren Church. She was a kind and loving wife and mother and a kind-hearted neighbor.
Those left to mourn her death are her husband and her children: Arthur and Orie E. of Stratton, Colorado, Mrs. Cora Floyd and Mrs. Thirza Garrett of Geneva, fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, H.A. Eveland, Perry, Iowa and Peter Eveland, Elmwood, Neb., a sister, Keturah Hopkins, Muscatine, Iowa, and a brother-in-law Elrie Wellman, who has made his home with them for many years and has helped care for them in their declining years; and a number of other relatives and friends.
The funeral took place from the United Brethren Church at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and was conducted by Rev. R.G. Carter of York. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. Among those here to attend the funeral were Peter Eveland and daughter Nora, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gusien, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Eveland, all of Elmwood; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bokelman of Lewiston, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wellman and daughter Fay of Stratton, Col.; Mr. and Mrs. Carol Treat and Mrs. Florence Britton of Doniphan, and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Turner of York, Neb.
