He was a heavy equipment mechanic for the CCC in Nevada but joined the Army Air Corp after the start of WWII where he served as a Flight Engineer on Submarine patrols and ferrying both B17's and B29's. He was a retired as Chief Master Sergeant and Flight Line Chief with the Texas Air National Guard after serving in Korea during the Korean War and during the Vietnam War.
