Orpha (Ritchie) Caplinger, 83, of Dayton, a loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away, Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2010, at University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville.

She was born in Criders July 1, 1927, and was a daughter of the late William and Ida Alice (Siever) Ritchie.

Orpha was a member of Dayton United Methodist Church. She had worked at Zigler's Cannery, Rockingham Poultry, Sancar and in the laundry at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

She was united in marriage Nov. 6, 1948, to Edgar L. Caplinger, of Dayton, who survives.

Surviving in addition to her husband is a daughter, Lois F. Lineberry and husband, Jeff, of Bridgewater; one granddaughter, Jennifer N. Appleton and husband, Josh; and two great-granddaughters, Ellianna J. Appleton and Bridget G. Appleton.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mallie Rexrode, Melvie Halterman and Audrey Miller, and four brothers, Ivan Ritchie, Otis Ritchie, Truman Ritchie and Clory Ritchie

A memorial service will be held at Johnson Funeral Service Chapel in Bridgewater at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, with the Rev. Steve Bird officiating. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.

A graveside service will be at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens in Harrisonburg 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2011.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dayton United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 215 Ashby St., Dayton, VA 22821. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.johnsonfs.com.
