Amanda J. "Minnie" Teague was the eldest daughter, and second of six children born to David Teague and his wife Eleanor Field, of Randolph County, North Carolina. Her paternal grandparents were William Teague and his wife Anna Carter, of Chatham County, NC; and, her maternal grandparents were Jeremiah Field and his wife Eleanor Sherwood, of Randolph County.
In 1867, Amanda married Robert L. Causey (1841-1920). He was a Confederate veteran, and the son of Joseph Causey and his wife Mary McCulloch, of Randolph County. Amanda and Robert had three children: Fletcher Wayland Causey (1868-1942), Henry Causey (1870-?) and Myrtle Ella Causey (1876-1959).
