Myrtle Ella Causey was the only daughter, and youngest of three children, born to Robert L. Causey (1841-1920) and his wife Amanda J. "Minnie" Teague (1843-1933). Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Causey and his wife Mary McCulloch; and her maternal grandparents were David Teague and his wife Eleanor Field, all of Randolph County, North Carolina.

The 1900 census suggests her name may have been Mary Ella Myrtle. (She's listed there as Mary E. M.) but most other places, she is listed as Myrtle E. She lived at Randleman, NC, but died in a hospital at Laurinburg.
