SAM GARDNER

Sam Gardner, son of James Kinzie and Nancy Rebecca Black Gardner, was born in Villisca, Iowa on May 16, 1900 and passed away at the Montgomery County Memorial Hospital in Red Oak, Iowa on September 28, 1979.
Sam was married to Pearl J. Wert in Clarinda, Iowa on January 26, 1921. To this union two daughters were born, Helen C. Boelling of Des Moines, Iowa and Billie Marie Johnson of Creston, Iowa.
Sam retired from the railroad for which he worked many years. He was a member of the national guard for eleven years, five of which he was 1st sergeant.
Preceding him in death were his parents and three sisters. Surviving are his wife, Pearl, two daughters, two cousins, Pearl Units, and Jake Butler of Villisca, Iowa; Marie Zawilla, a niece of Chicago, Illinois; seven grandchildren ad eleven great grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, October 2, 1979 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Villisca with the Revered Elliott Bodwell officiating.
Music was provided by Martin Hentsch, organist and Mrs. Bruce Nelson, soloist. Musical selections were "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In The Garden". Flower bearers were Irma Patterson. Eunice Van Valkenburg and Ethel Smith.
Casket bearers were Mike Johnson, James Boelling, Harold Holiday, Tom Boelling, Robert Boelling, and Russell Burgman.
Interment was in the Villisca Cemetery, Villisca, Iowa.
Arrangements were provided by The Wolfe Funeral Home of Villisca.
