Henry G. "Harry" Lord was born and raised in Gloucestershire, England. He attended and graduated from Sir Thomas Rich's school founded in 1666. Harry worked on the farm after graduation and enlisted at the beginning of WW I in the English military. Rising to the rank of Sergeant Major, he was decorated for valor 4 times. In his eight and one half years of service he saw active duty in France, the Middle East and German East Africa. He was a POW three times escaping each time. Post WW I he decided to try his luck outside Mother country England. Encouraged by friends and relatives in the United States, he arrived in Lorimor, Iowa.
By chance, he entered the "newspaper business". Along with his wife, Minnie, who was also a Gloucestershire immigrant, he published newspapers in Lorimor, Walnut and Mechanicsville, Iowa.
Harry was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Loins Club, Woodmen of the World, and the Episcopalian Church. After Minnie's death, he moved back to Lorimor. His re-arrival was celebrated by the townsfolk who elected him Mayor. He was very proud to serve even though being well into his retirement years.
He and Minnie raised three children: Alexina, Naida, & Ivor.
