He was the son of James and Susannah Dyer.

He came to Winnebago County, Illinois in April of 1938 and bought land from the government, 23 Oct 1839, in Harlem Township.

He married Mary Jane Courtright (d/o Isaiah Courtright), December 10, 1840, Winnebago County, IL. She died of typhoid fever. He was a Dry Goods Merchant in Rockford, IL. Known children: Edward; Frances; Susan; Albert; and Alson.
