Enlisted in 40th Tennessee Infantry Regiment Company K CSA on June 1861, as a 2nd Lieutenant.
Company was captured while in the hospital at Island #10.

After parole enlisted as a member of Home Guards, known as Mont Davenports Company, stationed at Lebanon, Alabama. Was 1st Lieutenant in Home Guards.
