POCAHONTAS - Robert E. Ahlrichs, age 84, of Pocahontas, passed away on Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at the Pochontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, IA.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 31, 2010, at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, with Pastor Paul Bengtson officiating.

Burial will be in Summit Hill Cemetery at Pocahontas, Iowa, with military rites by the Pocahontas American Legion.

Robert E. Ahlrichs – age 84, of Pocahontas, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Ia.

Robert Edward Ahlrichs was born July 8, 1926, in Lincoln Twp. near Pocahontas, Iowa. He was the son of Edward and Minnie (Redmann) Ahlrichs. He attended rural schools and graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Army in the Philippines during W.W. II from 1943 to 1945. Following his military service, Bob farmed with his father for a short time before joining Bergeson Construction of Pocahontas. On April 23, 1950, Bob married Doris Schoon in Pocahontas. The couple made their home in Pocahontas. He opened Ahlrichs Cabinet Shop in the 1960s and was joined by his sons Charlie and Tim.

Bob was an active member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church having served as Sunday school teacher, on the church council and on the property committee. He also served on the Pocahontas Planning and Zoning Commission. Bob was a longtime Scout Leader and he received the Silver Beaver Award for distinguished service to youth, the highest award an adult in Scouting can receive.

Survivors include his wife, Doris of Pocahontas; children, Susan (David) Halblom of Des Moines; Charles (Pam) Ahlrichs of Pocahontas; Tim (Barb) Ahlrichs of Pocahontas and Mike (Olivia) Ahlrichs of West Des Moines; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Charlotte Lauridsen of Greeley, CO.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents and great-grandson, Owen.
