Elijah Willis Koonce, Was born in Sumner Co. Tennessee, April 11, 1837.

He moved to Illinois and enlisted in the Union Army, in 1862. Company B The 81st Illinois Infantry and served 2 years and 2 months. He was given an Honorable discharge at Rock Island Illinois in 1864.

In 1865 he married Sarah Catherine Bollerjack and to this union 6 children were born. Four are still living; Robert Houston Koonce of Chandler, OK,Andrew Jackson Koonce of Bristow, Mrs Rebecca Jane (Koonce) Crouch and Thomas Jefferson Koonce of Mountain View Missouri.

His first wife (Sarah Catherine Bollerjack Koonce) died May 27, 1884.

He married Nancy Adeline Evans July 9th 1894. To this Union were born five children, three of whom are living, Vernon, Ray and Ruth.

Robert Houston Koonce and Andrew Jackson Koonce were present at their father's funeral which was conducted in the Methodist church on Monday afternoon in the presence of a great host of relatives and friends. The Rev. Claude P. Zenor was in charge and preached the sermon. The G.A.R. Of Kingfisher conducted the ritualistic service in the church. The Rev. Job Ingram was in charge of this service.

The Rev. Koonce was a local preacher in the Methodist Church. For 20 years he devoted his entire time to preaching the Gospel. He was also a member of the local G.A.R. Post. He lived a useful life. He was a good soldier in the service of his country and a sincere and earnest believer in Christ. His Death occurred Oct. 24 1920.
