Clarice I. (Powell) Simons, age 89, of Vestal, passed away on Dec. 27, 2010 at Good Shepherd Fairview Home, Binghamton, N.Y.
She was born April 2, 1921, at Warren Center, Pa., a daughter of the late Rees and Corinne (Abell) Powell and graduated from Towanda High School in Towanda, Pa. in 1938, then attended Lowell's Business School in Binghamton.
She was predeceased by her husband, Leslie Simons; and a granddaughter, Jill Marie Simons.
She is survived by a daughter, Rita Peyser (Henry), Old Bethpage, N.Y., and their two daughters, Cheryl, San Francisco, Calif., Ilene, New York City; and a son, Ronald Simons (Sue), Vestal, N.Y., and their three children, Lynn Williams (Clay), Minoa, N.Y., Kristin Halpin (Jay), Syracuse, N.Y., and Michael, New York City; and a great-granddaughter, Mia Williams of Minoa. She is also survived by a sister, Carol Jones (Russell) of Warren Center, Pa., and a sister-in-law, Doris Simons of Wyalusing, Pa.; also several nieces, nephews and many good friends.
She retired after 16 years with the Binghamton City School District at North Senior High School, was a member of the Vestal United Methodist Church, Johnson City Service Chapter No. 680 Eastern Star, and Vestal Senior Citizens.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Thursday, Dec. 30, 2010 at Barber Memorial Home, 428 Main St., Johnson City, N.Y. Burial will be in Vestal Park Cemetery, 328 Main St., Vestal. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Dec. 30 at Barber Memorial Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Clarice's memory to the Vestal United Methodist Church, 328 Main St., Vestal, NY 13850, or Good Shepherd Fairview Home Living Care Fund, 80 Fairview Ave., Binghamton, NY 13904, where she received excellent care the last few years of her life.
