Louis was the son of John Hoback and Joan Kelley. As an infant his family relocated from Moniteau County, MO., to Cass County Nebraska along with other extended family members. But by 1900 young Louis was back in Moniteau working as a farm laborer. By 1900 Louis and other members of the Hoback clan found their way to Salt Fork town, Grant County, Oklahoma. Louis was working as a salesman in a hardware store in Salt Fork and met Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Danford and they were married in 1905. Louis became a traveling salesman for J.I. Case Co., selling farming implements and moved from Grant County to Shawnee, Oklahoma. In 1914 he relocated to Oklahoma City with his wife and three children and worked out of the J.I. Case Plow Works building at 2 East California Avenue until retirement. The following is his obituary from the The Oklahoman, May 7, 1967, page 16.

A retired city man, Louis W. Hoback, 87, of 308 NW 41, died Saturday at a city nursing home. Services are pending wit Smith and Kernke Funeral home.
Hoback was born in California, Mo. He had been a state resident since 1900, moving to Oklahoma City in 1914. Before his retirement seven years ago, he was employed over 30 years as a traveling salesman for J.I. Case Co. He was a Mason and a member of Westminister Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a son , W.D. and two daughters, Leola and Elvena, all of the home; and a sister, Mrs. Lizzie Crump, St. Louis, MO.
