I have seen her name spelled both "Eliese" and "Elise", and will use the "Elise" spelling as that is what is on her gravestone.

Elise Katherine Christensen was born in Denmark on October 4, 1871. Her parents were Chris Christensen (b: 1842, d: 1931) and Katherine (Mathiesen) Christensen (b: 1842, d: 1882), who were both born in Slieswig-Hostein Denmark. Elise had one sibling, Anna Christensen.

She married Fred Lauris Nielsen (Nelson) (b. 8/28/1869), who was also born in Denmark.

Elise and Fred did not know each another when they emigrated to the US, but found one another, married, and settled in Clinton, Iowa and became naturalized citizens in approximately 1888. They had two sons:

Manno Frederick Nelson (b. 7/11/1893, d. 10/7/1975)
Clarence Nelson (b. 1895 or 1897.., d. 10/23/1928)

Elise and Fred are buried together at Springdale Cemetery, were their son Clarence is also buried.

My parents named me after her but shortened it to "Lisa".
