Vera Faye Whaley Payne went home to be a seamstress for the Lord on December 22, 2010, surrounded by her family at Medical Center of Plano in Plano, TX.

Vera was born in Flat, TX on December 14, 1937 to Ernest Lee and Unia Bell (Beasley) Whaley. She attended School in Jonesboro, TX. She is now making robes for God and the angels in Heaven.

Vera married Gilbert Dale Payne on October 9, 1954. They were residents of Denton, TX. She is survived by him and children Sue Keefer of Saginaw, TX, and Faye and Billy Boydstun of Caddo, OK. Grandchildren Chris and Hollye Boydstun of Tahlequah, OK; Mark and Melissa Boydstun of Durant, OK, Wesly and Jessica Keefer of Saginaw, Tx, and Craig Keefer of Saginaw, TX. Great-grandchildren include Mackenzie, Colby, Miley, John, Ashtyn, and Sawyer. She is also survived by brothers; Hoyett Wood of Fairy, TX, Odis and Shirley Whaley of Seguin, TX, Bob and Loujuana Whaley of Hamilton, TX, sisters; Ernestine Shelton of Temple, TX, Robbie Timmons of Gatesville, TX, and twin sister Era May Stubblefield, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Lee and Unia Bell (Beasley) Whaley, sister, Velma Massingill, and brother, Trussie (Jim) Wood.

She was a member of McKinney Street Baptist Church. She loved to go to Denton Regional Hospital with her sewing group, U2, to make small scrub suites for sick children in the hospital, caps for cancer patients, and pillows for heart by-pass patients.

A celebration of Vera's life will be held at Riley Funeral Home, 402 W. Main, Hamilton, TX 76531 at 2 pm, Wednesday, December 29, 2010 with burial at Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be on Tuesday evening, December 28, 2010 at Riley Funeral Home from 6 to 8 pm. A memorial service will be held at McKinney Street Baptist Church in Denton, TX on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 6 pm.
