Vera L (Harkins) (Adair) Alexander was born on August 4, 1922 in Alabama, the daughter of Pearson James Harkins (1892–1973) and Ressie "Viola" (Wesson) Harkins (1898–1930).

She was married 1st in 1942 to James Mancel Adair (1922–1995), and it is strongly suspected that they were later divorced. She was married 2nd to Joe Alexander.

A domestic who was living at 2406 Norris Avenue in Gladsen, Etawah County, Alabama, Vera was 44 years old and married when she had an acute heart attack and died at Vanderbilt Hospital on September 9, 1966. Her body was removed two days later for burial in Memory Hill Cemetery in Marshall County, Alabama, and she was buried under the surname of her 1st husband.
