BEECH GROVE -- Robert "R.J" Alvey, 70, of Beech Grove died Monday, Sept. 4, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Reed native was a member of Nickel Ridge Holiness Church. He was a retired career sergeant first class in the Army, a veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of McLean County Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 5415. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Mary Elizabeth Alvey; a son, Robert J. Alvey Jr. of Henderson; three grandchildren; two brothers, James Allen Alvey of Orlando, Fla., and Ronald Alvey of Calhoun; and four sisters, Melba Abney and Shirley Lott, both of Owensboro, Joyce Crabtree of Calhoun and Dorothy Underwood of Orlando. Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Muster Funeral Homes, Calhoun Chapel. Burial will be in Calhoun Cemetery. Visitation is after 5 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to McLean County Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 5415
