Alonzo R. "Dick" Atkinson, 81, Marion, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Mary Lou, and daughters, Cindy, Susan, Kella, Velen and granddaughters Whitney, when he left this earth to be with God.

He was born in Matthews to the late Charles and Georgia (Brown) Atkinson. He married Mary Lou Roesly on July 28, 1972, she survives.

He graduated from Hartford City High School in 1946. He was U.S. Air Force veteran. He retired from Delco Electronics in 1993. He spent the winters in Yuma, Ariz. where he was an avid bicycle rider. He loved the Marion Giants and IU basketball. He enjoyed many years at Chapman and Irish Lake. He enjoyed gardening and loved working in his yard.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five daughters, Cindy (Dale) Ballard, Susan (Gary) Jones, Rita Atkinson, Kella (Paul) Fields and Velen (Rob) Webb; sisters, Joyce (Forrest) Randell and Phyllis (George) Griffey from Hartford City; grandchildren, Felicia Thompson, LaTasha Thompson, Delon (Kim) Thompson, David (Shelby) Stambaugh, Brian (Amanda) Stambaugh, Ashley Thien, Jagger Mock, Jonett (Jim) Williams, Amber (Marshall) Rhine, Katelyn Fields and Whitney Webb; and great-grandchildren, Cedric, Alexis, Kyle, Jack, John, Noelle, Greg, Erica, Brandon, Logan, Madison, Hannah, Dylan, Ella, Bo and Quinten.

She was preceded in death by son, Richard Atkinson; parents, Charles and Georgia Atkinson; and brother, Charles (Bud) Atkinson.

Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Holy Family Catholic Church, 325 E. N. "A", Gas City with Rev. Richard Weisenberger officiating. Burial will be in Estates of Serenity, Marion.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave.
