Betsy Harris Allen, "Bets," of Roxboro, died peacefully on May 3, 2007, after a period of declining health. She was born on June 26, 1929, in Roxboro to the late Reginald Lee Harris and Katharine Long Harris.
Betsy was a loving and devoted wife and mother. She centered her life around her family and friends. She dedicated her time to her church, Long Memorial United Methodist Church, and Person Memorial Hospital, where she served on the Board of Trustees for over 25 years.
She was always a caregiver and gave selflessly to others her entire life. She touched many lives with her kindness and thoughtful notes. Betsy had a keen sense of humor and loved sharing a laugh with those around her. Her legacy is her love for her family and friends. She will live in our hearts and memories forever.
Betsy was preceded in death by her father, former North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Reginald Lee Harris, and her mother, Katharine Long Harris; her brothers, Reginald Lee Harris Jr., William Henry Harris and Anderson Page Harris; and her sisters, Katharine Harris Schloss and Mary Harris Brown.
Betsy is lovingly remembered by her husband of 55 years, Gordon Phillip Allen Sr.; her son, Phillip and his wife, Felicia, and their children, Caroline, Carson and Carly; her daughter, Kassie McCollum and her husband, Tony, and their children, Katie, Annie, Allen, David and Lee; her daughter, Betsy Reade Creech and her husband, Gray, and their children, Rachael, Sonny and Betsy Reade; her son, George and his wife, Carol, and their children, Anna Christian, Mary Carr and Sallie; and her son, Page and his wife, Laura, and their children, Harris, Graham and Cullen.
