Alfred R. Carifa, Retired, MSgt. CT Air National Guard, 87, of Enfield, beloved husband of Anne (Cosgrove) Carifa, entered into eternal peace on Friday (December 24, 2010) at Johnson Memorial Hospital.

Born in New Britain, Alfred had been a resident of the Enfield community since 1960 and was a communicant of Holy Family Church.

He was a World War II and Korean War veteran and served in the Army Air Corps three years and the Air National Guard for thirty-four years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Washington Irving Council #50 in Enfield, VFW Smalley Bros. Post #6123 in Windsor Locks, the American Legion John Maciolek Post No. 154 in Enfield, the Holy Family Men's Club, and the Claddagh Club of Enfield.

Alfred enjoyed gardening, and was an avid Red Sox fan. His greatest love in life was his family and spending time with his grandchildren who will miss him deeply.

Besides his wife Anne, Alfred leaves a son Patrick A. Carifa and his wife Theresa of Enfield, a sister Shirley Poulin of Bristol; four grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Jennie, and Steven Carifa; a sister-in-law Lorraine Carifa of New Britain; two nephews, Franlkin Carifa, Sr. and Kenneth Carifa; and a niece, Loralyn Callahan. He was predeceased by a brother, Franklin L. Carifa.

Family and friends will gather at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Road, Enfield, for a procession to Holy Family Church for a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial. Committal with full military honors accorded will follow at Mount St. Benedict Cemetery in Bloomfield.
Alfred's family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at Leete-Stevens from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m.
